    Description

    This beautiful ALABASTER Carving is a the agate type; the color ranges between tans and browns due to the presence of iron and magnesium oxides.  Alabaster is also known as STONE OF LIGHT. Carved fetishes frequently represent protector animals.  The BEAR with its strength guards the west.  Our carving is 7 inches by 5 inches tall, and weighs just about 4 pounds.  It is signed on the bottom with a TH. The long line of the T is also the left line in the H. This ancient art form is closely associated with the ZUNI PUEBLO people, who are considered the most skilled fetish carvers.
